Oxford Cambridge & RSA (OCR) Health & Social Care
The health and social care field is vast and includes work within hospitals; health centres or care homes with a variety of clients such as the elderly, children, those with disabilities or special needs. Courses in this discipline leads to NVQ, National Certificate or GNVQ qualifications.
What is OCR National Certificate in Health and Social Care?
The OCR National certificate in Health and Social Care has been developed to recognise candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding of the Health and social care sector and the settings, job roles, principles and values involved. It accredits candidates’ abilities to carry out a range of tasks and has been designed to accredit candidates’ achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the work place. It does not certificate competence on the job but it is a work-related qualification that will support progression to an NVQ once a candidate is in the work place.

Course Structure
There are four mandatory units:
Unit 1- Preparing to give quality care
Unit 2- Communicating with service users in care settings
Unit 3- Practical caring
Unit 4- Hygiene and safety in care settings

Assessment
The assessment for Unit 1 and Unit 4 are externally set and marked by OCR. The remaining two mandatory modules and all of the optional units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. All units are graded: pass, merit, distinction, and fail. Full award certificates will be graded: pass, merit, distinction.
Entry requirements
This qualification is available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards, it has been developed free from any barriers that restrict access or progressions thereby promoting equal opportunities.
